Self Care Sunday

Self care is one of my favorite things. While this post is entitled “Self Care Sunday” self care can be done any day of the week. In fact I actually tend to pick Saturday and Sunday. Yes, and for that matter you now know I am a homebody, and don’t like to do too much on the weekends in the outing and about-ing realm.

There is something ever so refreshing out recharging/ reenergizing every weekend. It really puts me in a better head space and ready to take on whatever comes my way. It also helps me start the work week refreshed and not overwhelmed and anxious.

Self Care

Below are things I love to do for self care. I am definitely not able to get all of these things in every week, however I try to do as much as I can. I even squeeze some of the below in during the week, pending the type of week and the amount of free time I have.

  • Read a Book: Let yourself get lost in another world. Read whatever floats your boat. Maybe it’s a mystery novel, or maybe it’s a romance novel. Whatever it may be read. Get lost in another world; learn something new. Feed your mind and soul.
  • Workout: There is nothing better than getting a good sweat on and releasing some anxiety and stress. If you are needing some at home workout inspiration check out my post Let’s Workout-At Home Workouts
Self Care
  • Do a Face Mask: There are so many good face masks out there. I love feeling like I have a clean face. It makes me feel alive. You too? Currently I am obsessed with the Drunk Elephant Babyfacial face mask.
  • Take a Bath: Baths are my jam for just letting myself be at peace. I love grabbing a good book, putting on a face mask and grabbing a lush bath bomb and just escaping. If I don’t use a lush bath bomb I love using Dr. Teals eucalyptus bubble bath.
  • Make a Good Dinner: Get creative, find a fun recipe, grab a glass of wine, turn on some jams and just have fun. Even if whatever you make doesn’t turn out as planned, it’s all about the experience and what you make of it. Step outside of your comfort zone and try to cook or bake something new.
  • Treat Yourself to Dessert: I could eat dessert everyday of the week, but I don’t, otherwise I would be the size of a house. Dessert for me is a treat. On the weekends I let myself have some dessert. It’s the perfect little treat to keep that sweet tooth sweet.
  • Sleep: Sleep is so important and everyone needs different amounts of it. I personally need a good 7-8 hours of sleep a night. This is what makes me feel the most well rested and ready to conquer anything that comes my way. One tip I have for you when it comes to sleep is to try to keep a consistent schedule. I make sure on the weekends not to over sleep and to get up at roughly the same time I do during the week. Keeping a schedule like this helps keep me going and makes the week day get up schedule easy.
  • Listen to a Podcast: I used to not be a podcast person. I was like what the heck is all the hype about until I started listening to them a few years back. Now I love listening to podcasts. Podcasts provide a sense of being able to relate with others and know “it’s ok.” Especially in the current times we are living with Covid-19 and our lack of socialization. Some of my current podcast favorites are:
    • Weekly Dose of BS
    • Robinhood Snacks
    • Living with Landyn
    • Just the Sip
  • Dance it Out: Turn on your favorite jams and just let yourself flow with the music. I dance it out all the time. It’s the best anxiety and stress relief out there I am telling you.
  • Grab a Coffee from you Favorite Coffee Shop: I love grabbing a coffee here and there. It adds up if you do it everyday, however when you treat it as a every once in a while thing, it’s affordable and makes it that much better and more of a treat. My favorite order is an americano (hot or iced pending the time of year). What’s your favorite?
  • Journal: Sometimes writing your thoughts down and getting it on paper helps. I definitely am not the best journal-er, but I don’t have to be. There is no rhyme or reason to what, or how you have to journal. Sometimes I find myself writing a book, other times I struggle to put my thoughts on paper. Putting your thoughts on paper, and out into the universe is so helpful and soothing on so many levels. Next time you are anxious or just need to get something off your chest, try and journal.
  • Hydrate: Always, always stay hydrated. This was habit that was extremely hard for me to pick up on, however once I did I realized the benefits and just how much better I felt having consumed enough water. One of my tips for getting enough water in during the day is to drink a bottle/large cup before your coffee or tea in the morning. Another tip is I don’t let myself have a glass of wine in the evening unless I have drank my 4-5 big things of water (equating to roughly a gallon) of water each day.
  • Get some Sun: Vitamin D please! I never really noticed, until I moved to Denver, how much having the sun out most everyday really puts me in a good mood. If we have a few days of rain here in Colorado I notice how much it effects me and puts me in not the best head space. Get some sun, but make sure to wear SPF!
  • Treat yourself to flowers: Trader Joes flowers are the best kept secret. They are extremely affordable and the quality is right on par. I don’t ever feel guilty like I am throwing boat loads of money down the drain when I buy them, and they tend to last awhile. There is something about fresh cut flowers in the house that just makes me happy.
  • Live in the Moment: Don’t let unwanted or unnecessary thoughts sneak in. During the weekend, try as hard as possible not to dwell on work, save that for when you are actually at/or doing work. I find living in the moment hard sometimes. My brain constantly wanders and thinks and over thinks everything.

Taking Care of You

Taking care of you is of the utmost importance. No one other than yourself really knows how to take care of you, better than you do. Make sure you find some time every week for you. Some weeks you may have more time than others, whatever it may be, embrace it!
