Madison, Wisconsin- Must Visit List

Madison, Wisconsin is definitely home away from our Colorado home. For those of you who don’t know, I am a “Badger” and went to UW Madison for my Bachelors of Science degree. This past weekend I flew back for my Wedding Shower (wedding shower details here), but this post isn’t about the shower it’s to introduce you to a few of my favorites in Madison, Wisconsin. This list is by no means exhaustive but a few of my favorites and ones I definitely recommend checking out!

Indie Coffee

My favorite coffee shop in Madison. I used to go to Indie Coffee with one of my best college friends all the time. We would go and grab an iced coffee and go for a walk by the lake. This local coffee shop has by far the best coffee I have had and has radiating positive vibes when you walk on in. I highly recommend grabbing an iced coffee from here. If you try something else and like it let me know, so I can add to my list.

Greenbush Bakery

I definitely cheated a bit with my healthy eating and grabbed a delicious sprinkle donut to go with my Indie Coffee. Greenbush Bakery is a family owned and Kosher bakery. Their donuts are to die for and melt in your mouth. They are the perfect pairing with your morning coffee and maybe a walk or two after as I suspect the deliciousness doesn’t come with anything too good for your body.

The Old Fashioned

This iconic Madison restaurant is conveniently located on the capital square. As the title states The Old Fashioned  have delicious old fashions. Not only do they have delicious old fashions but a delicious variety of Wisconsin food. I tend to always order the Wisconsin Beer Battered Cheese Curds, the wisconsin cheese plate and wisconsin best wurst plate. All boast definite Wisconsin food and are delicious. Definitely check out their sandwiches as well, the summer sausage sandwich is good too! The summer sausage sandwich brings back so many memories of child hood for me. The normal everyday kid gets pb&j sandwiches in their lunches, but we got summer sausage sandwiches, which were always heavenly.

UW Terrace

The terrace boasts tons of fun energy, live music and delicious beer. The UW Madison Terrace is conveniently located on Lake Mendota. I love soaking up the sun (and shade) and watching all the boats on the lake, listening to music and sipping on some delicious beer. There is something so soothing and relaxing being on the terrace. It’s one of the places if not the place I miss most in Madison. The terrace chairs have definitely become and icon and can be purchased so you can live the terrace life 365 days a year. I have included the link to the chairs here for you to purchase or check out, out of curiosity.

Fromagination

A new favorite of mine. In fact if you are attending our wedding you will be enjoying cheese from here. This cute shop located on the capitol square literally has any and ever type of cheese you could possibly imagine. They have local Wisconsin cheese and cheese from all across the United States and Europe. Deliciousness!!! This shop is full of cheese and local products from front to back. Not only is the cheese delicious but the staff is super friendly and always willing to help you find exactly what you need. Check them out here. They do ship, so it’s not necessary to live in the area to purchase from them. What is your favorite type of cheese.

State Street Brats

Another iconic Madison restaurant, boasting beer and brats and located conveniently on state street. Post getting your shop on definitely head over to this sports bar for a beer and brat. The atmosphere at State Street Brats can be a bit wild at time, but that’s Wisconsin for your. Beer, brats and super party people.

Madison Farmers Market

The best farmers market you will attend in the US hands down. I have not run across a bigger or better farmers market in all my travels. There is something for  everyone at the farmers market. The Madison farmers market is located on the capitol square and goes around all 4 sides with vendors packed on each side. There are tons of locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey, cheese and sausage to name a few. If you head over to the farmers market a MUST MUST MUST is the spicy cheese bread from Stella’s bakery. It is the best bread of your life. It’s a little spicy with pockets of cheese. You can get it at the farmers market warm and oooo heaven in my mouth.

Whether you are living in Madison, Wisconsin or going for a visit these are definitely places you need to check out. I am and will always be proud to be a Badger and have to lived in this beautiful quaint city. It will always hold a place in my heart.
