Wedding Guest 101

How many weddings have you been to this year? How many of you find them stressful? They definitely don’t have to be. I know it can be stressful finding the perfect outfit, but I have a few tips and tricks below to help.

Wedding Guest: Carmel-by-the-Sea:

Today we are attending a wedding, where I knew no one coming into the weekend. My fiancé has numerous friends on the East Coast because that’s where he went to prep school and college, and with the distance I have really never had a chance to meet them. Now I am sure you are probably thinking, don’t you ever travel back to the East Coast. Answer: Yes. Most of my fiancé’s family is on the East Coast. With that said, when we are there we are cramming family in and those numerous other people slip through the cracks.

Attending a wedding without being able to consult with another girlfriend prior to the event to ensure my outfit was on point, is a whole new ball game for me. Where do I even start? How much to a tee do I need to dress. While I know there are dress codes for weddings, it still gets a bit tricky, but I put my fears aside right away and just decided to be me. I personally think I have decent taste in style and so I just went with it. What else was I going to do?

I first ordered a Monique Lhuillier. I loved the dress when it came, but it was so tight I wasn’t going to be able to eat. Since they didn’t have a size up in the dress I initially ordered, I ordered a different Monique Lhuillier. When it came I can say I was beyond disappointed. It was made in China. I would maybe have paid $25 for it. That’s how poor quality it was. I continued to return the dress and began on the path to order a third dress. Third time’s a charm right? I was lost as to where I was going to order a dress. While perusing the web I found that Rent the Runway actually sells the dresses they retire. What a fabulous idea.

I ordered a used dress off Rent the Runway. When I first ordered the dress I was so excited to get it. I have to say the time it takes to ship was a bit disappointing. Nowhere when ordering did I see that it would take 7 days to SHIP, let alone then get to me. Good thing I had time before the wedding.

Minus the the time it took to ship, the dress that came is fabulous. I am looking forward to wearing it today for the wedding. (Stay tuned for pictures). I will definitely purchase again from Rent the Runway all with keeping in mind that it will take a good 2 weeks to get.

Wedding Guest Outfit Tips:
  • Order your outfit well in advance so you have time to order another if the first isn’t exactly right.
  • Order more than one outfit right away if you don’t have time. This way you have options. You can always return the outfit you decide against.
  • Never pay full price. Full price is a sin.
