Confessions of a Workaholic

I am and will always be a workaholic. Being a workaholic doesn’t just apply to my job but my life. I find it extremely hard to sit still and always need to be doing something. Recently on top of work we have been painting, furnishing and doing house projects. That is also on top of the normal everyday/week cleaning, errands, laundry, meals and everything else that inserts itself into our lives. I thrive living this lifestyle though. Being busy and a workaholic helps me prioritize everything perfectly (maybe it’s not always perfect, but I like to think so).

How do I Survive?

  • Listen to my body: If I need a break I let myself take one. Whether this is work or my personal life. Sometimes you just need to stop, breathe and smell the roses.
  • Hydrate: Water intake is super important to keeping that body going.
  • Fuel: Food intake is also important. Not binge or stress eating, but eating in moderation. You need to keep that brain and those muscles fueled. What you put into your body is what you will get out. You put crap into your body, you are going to feel like crap and this “crap” feeling is going to drive you to an unproductive and not giving 100% life.
  • Self Care: I take care of me first and foremost. Taking care of me includes but is not limited to: working out (daily), face masks, hot baths and saying NO when I need to. I emphasize saying NO. We as workaholics tend to say yes to everything. This leads to burn out and to over filing your plate. If you need to say NO do it and don’t feel bad and don’t look back. You are doing it for you.
  • Self love: Trying my harder to love every bit of me. Thanking my body and mind for all it does.

Workaholic Lifestyle

There are many people out there who will tell you being a workaholic is a problem. I don’t see it as such. I see it as an opportunity to rise above. Yes, being a workaholic in one area alone IS a problem, but when you apply it to your lifestyle it provides balance and structure. This balance and structure are what keep you and your life moving in the forward direction. It will be what has you conquering those things you never thought you could.

Balancing that Workaholic Life

  • Planning: I have told you guys this 500 times, but I am going to tell you again. Planning plays a role in keeping my “workaholic” life balanced.
  • Too Much of Anything is Bad: Make sure you balance your day. Yes, some days you are going to have to allocate more time to one thing versus another but BALANCE is key to a happy and successful life.
  • Write it down: If writing down all you have to do and organizing yourself that way helps. Do it! Not everything in your life is going to need/require the same amount of time or dedication. Writing it down allows you to visually see where you need to allocate your time.
  • Prioritize: Learn how to prioritize. How do you do that? As I say above write down everything you have to do. Now look at that list. What has to be done today? Tomorrow? Next week? Do those things that have to be done sooner first and then move on from there.

Time Allocation

Make sure you are evenly distributing your time. I do not mean that every task or section (work, errands, projects, personal, etc.) needs the same amount of time but make sure the percentage of time you are spending on each is equivalent to the time needed. Like the old saying goes, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” It’s just not a good idea.

Rounded Life Workaholic

Workaholic Mentality-Mannerisms

  • Positivity: I always try to keep a positive attitude. Life is just too darn short to not.
  • Knowing: Knowing not everyday is going to be amazing, but embracing the negativity/faults/bad days and turning them into something beautiful.
  • Go-Getter: Are you the first person to volunteer for something?
  • Nothing can stop me: Literally no matter what comes your way or how much is on your plate you keep going.
  • Love being busy: You hate to be sedentary. You have to keep moving and are always on the go.
  • Energizer Bunny: Does the song “going going going…” ring a bell in your head? Yes, I have been called the energizer bunny

Thoughts

Maybe you aren’t a workaholic, and that’s totally fine. I challenge you though if you are to apply your workaholic mentality to your ENTIRE life so that you aren’t getting too much of one thing and you are keeping yourself healthy. If you aren’t healthy then you are not living up to the best person you can be. Prioritize and let others help. You aren’t on this world alone and you sure as heck aren’t going to get where you want to be alone. You need to work together with the people along side of you. Use their positive energy/mentality and let it lift you up.

Embrace YOU

Don’t let society tell you being a workaholic is a bad thing. Embrace who you are and the strengths you possess. BALANCE that workaholic mentality to all parts of your life, so you divert your energy into getting everything done you need to get done. Let you be you. At the end of the day the people who really love you will respect you for who you are and the person you desire to be.
