Basics, Staples and All the Bliss

Keeping up with the ever so rapid changing fashion world can be exhausting and unnecessarily expensive. Your pay check shouldn’t have to all be spent on clothes or materialistic things to feel you are paralleling with society. The basics and staples are the key to a loving relationship with your wallet and society norms and trends.

I absolutely love shopping. There is something therapeutic about it, don’t ask me what, but there is. Having the perfect outfit for every outing and engagement is definitely all the bliss to me. I love to feel like everything is perfect. While perfect is a word that can never be achieved, I like to get things as perfect as they can be.

All the Bliss of Fashion Perfection

Buying on Sale

In today’s day and age there is no reason to pay full price for anything. There are always deals and coupons for everything. Once you find a piece you like wait and watch for a sale. The easiest way to watch for a sale is to sign up for the stores emails.  Purchasing the item might not happen immediately but I promise you it will happen.

Similar Pieces

You found a top you love and you feel like it’s a staple and must have in your wardrobe, but it’s ridiculously priced. You know even when it does go on sale it will still be out of reach. What do you do? You search similar key words on Google. There is bound to be another store that has something similar that is within your budget. I am super guilty in the best sense ever of doing this. It’s a hack that has allowed me to purchase the classic pieces I like, but not break the bank.

Basics and Staples

Buy the basics and staples and dress them up or layer them. Looking at fashion over the years you will see things carry over. People tend to pair things differently each year, but the basics and staples are always there. Maybe one year the trend is to wear a scarf with a piece of clothing and then next it’s to dress it up with a blue jean jacket. Have those pieces you can pair. Buy the basics and staples.

My Favorite Basics and Staples

  • Plain Sweaters
  • Long Sleeve Shirts
  • Cardigans
  • Sleeveless tops (great for under cardigans and coats)
  • Anything plain (No pattern. I tend to be a sucker for stripes and polka dots so I do buy those, but that’s my personal preference.)
  • Button Up Shirts
  • Ankle Boots
  • Flats
  • Basic T-Shirts

I love JCrew t-shirts. I watch for them to be on super sale and scoop all the colors up. They always pair well with a cardigan or under a cute coat.

Classic Pieces

There is nothing better than finding that classic piece. I tend to be on the hunt for classic pieces forever, as not everything fits everyone the same. The jacket that fits adorably on you may not be very flattering on me and vice versa.

My Favorite Classic Pieces

  • Sorrel Boots
  • Hunter Boots
  • Pointed Toe Heels
  • Patagonia
  • Jean Jackets
  • Vests
  • Blazers
  • Trench Coat
  • LBD
  • Matching PJs
  • Solid Dresses
  • Long flowy skirts

Invest in Quality

There definitely are those break the bank pieces that are just a must in your wardrobe. They will be the pieces you will have for years. When you buy the “break the bank” pieces though, wait until they are on sale. I have found some surprisingly good sales by shopping around and signing up for email lists.

Quality Pieces

  • Sunglasses
  • Purses/Bags

I am a sucker for Kate Spade purses. They are just so chic. Sign up for Kate Spade emails and you will then be notified when they have surprise 75% off sales. This is when I buy all my purses. Great purses for a reasonable price.

Nordstrom rack, 6pm and Zappos are also great places to find designer purses and bags on super sale.

  • Coats
  • Workout clothes

Workout clothes are used everyday in our house. We wear them workout and throw them in the wash. Our workout clothes have been washed more than anything else in the house. Buying quality workout clothes has become a must. I have found cheap workout clothes to wear out after a few washes and then you are stuck back at square one.

My favorite workout clothes a Lululemon. I am sure some of you are like Jessica, really? Let me tell you a secret. Go to Lululemon and try on the styles of clothes you like. Take notes of your sizes. Download the Lululemon app and shop the “we made too much” section. This is the sale Lululemon section and once you know your sizes you can score some great deals on quality clothing. I have had some of my Lululemon pieces for over 6 years now and they still look like new despite the 100s of washes.
