Woman Up!

Climbing the corporate ladder isn’t an easy challenge to take on. It’s hard work, dedication and boat loads of time. Being the best person I can be not only in my personal life, but my professional career, has always been and IS an aspiration of mine. There IS always room to grow, to be better, to develop more skills or to try new ones. Some of the most successful people are the ones who are the most well rounded. The ones who are prepared to handle all different situations, and who stand their ground.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
-Elanor Roosevelt-

I pride myself in being a strong and independent woman. I do think I use my “woman heels” a bit more than others and stand up for what’s right and confront what is wrong, however I definitely have room for development and growth.

Learning how to better approach situations to support my continued growth and climb can’t be done overnight. Education for further development is key. It is with this thought that brought me to find the book Woman Up! , By Aimee Cohen.

“If your number one goal is to make sure that everyone likes and approves of you, then you risk sacrificing your uniqueness, and, therefore, your excellence.”
-Unknown-

Woman Up! is an absolutely fabulous book. It’s extremely insightful, relatable and an easy/fast read. Aimee does a great job of using real life examples to show and explain real life mistakes women make that sabotage their careers. She calls these mistakes the “7 Deadly Sins.”

“You can’t be all things to all people. so don’t even try.”
-Rachael Ray-

I will be the first to admit I have committed some, if not all, of these sins and have learned greatly from my doing so. I am sure at times I still commit some of these sins, but it’s books like Aimee’s that help me think about what the issue/sin is and
what I can do to correct it.556429EA-9420-4069-B967-96DA40DB5FE3

Not only is Woman Up! full of real life examples, it has questions that prompt thought along the way. There are even spots to take notes! My Woman Up! book is full of markings, highlighting and notes to look back on, which I do regularly.

“Life is sweetened by risk, so dare to dream big and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. It’s only by stepping outside of our safety zone that we truly grow.”
-Leeza Gibbons-

If you are like me and strive to be the best you can be this is a perfect book for you. Developing oneself professionally should never stop. It’s an ongoing pendulum that keeps swinging.

I urge you to pick up this book and read. It’s truly inspiring and relatable, and if anything, it will spark you to think a bit more and grow your repertoire of knowledge.

Put on those heels and start/keep climbing; believe in yourself because YOU can have your cake and eat it too!

“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”
-Coco Chanel-
