Home Furnishing & Decor: Where to Buy

Decorating and furnishing a home is one large beast. Not only is it a large beast, but an expensive one at that. Super expensive if you ask me. As you know my husband and I moved out of our town home last year, lived with friends 2 months and then moved into our now house in the burbs. We went from a little over 1000 square foot town home to our now over 4000 square foot house. Sounds like a problem to have now doesn’t it?

Some of you may say, why are you complaining, that isn’t a problem. I am not complaining. I am only trying to give you an understanding of what we had, to what we now have, to understand the large undertaking of furnishing and decorating our house. To give you a little bit more of an idea, we got rid of all of our furniture when we moved minus the 2 bedroom sets. We moved without a couch, coffee table, etc. You get the picture.

To top moving in May off we got married in October, what a crazy 2018 it was. When we moved in we did a little furnishing, basically just a couch and a few rugs, as majority of our time was devoted to the yard in the summer months and the wedding. Now that the wedding is over I have had a chance to work on furnishing and decorating our house. We aren’t paying wedding vendors every month, so the budget allows us to slowly but surely furnish our house. Yes, I have a budget and yes, I try to follow it strictly. You can always find good deals if you really search.

Top Home Furnishing-Decor Shops

There are many places I have shopped at to furnish and decorate our house. I tend to look for quality, timeless pieces that: A. Don’t break the bank OR B. Are on Sale. The below 6 stores I have found to be amazing. Some of them even have free shipping on large pieces of furniture. Yes, you heard me right, FREE shipping. Who doesn’t love FREE shipping. Anyways, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. They really are #allthebliss.

Wayfair

Wayfair and the below All Modern go hand in hand. I order a good 80% of our furniture off of Wayfair/All Modern. I don’t really order decor from either, however furniture yes. I LOVE the free shipping over $49 and their no talk customer service (via Wayfair App) is amazing.

All Modern

I love being able to peruse just modern furniture versus all sorts on Wayfair, so I tend to use All Modern more at points to find pieces for our house, however not all of our pieces are classified as “modern.” All Modern is definitely a good place to go though, when you are looking for that modern piece of furniture.

I really caution you when using Wayfair and All Modern to look at the specifications such as size and weight when you purchase pieces. I know this sounds self explanatory, however I have heard people order stuff and say it looked so much bigger in the picture than what came. If they would have taken the extra couple minutes to look at the sizing and measure the space they needed to fill they wouldn’t have had those issues. Pictures can always be deceiving no matter what you order or where you order it from.

Home Goods

Quite a bit of the decor in our house has come from Home Goods. I LOVE Home Goods pillow section, as a house can never have too many pillows. I also love their candle section (tip: cheapest best candles you will buy that won’t break the bank). Finally, their home decor is just so on point, and so affordable, it’s something I can’t pass up.

I am all about a good deal. We don’t ever pay full price for really any home items, including furniture. Yes, I love quality, but you can find affordable quality items. I promise you, you don’t have to pay full or over price to get quality.

West Elm

I love West Elm‘s decor and bedding. I order most of our bedding from West Elm. Of course on sale. I would recommend to subscribe to their email list. I believe subscribing for the first time itself gives you a certain percent off, but then even after you use this, you can watch for deals to come through via email. Then when a good deal comes you can order the items you need/want.

Restoration Hardware Outlet

Gosh I wish Restoration Hardware wasn’t so expensive. I literally could buy everything in that store, but broke I would be. I discovered the Restoration Hardware Outlet, which is amazing. Yes, it’s still expensive, but more affordable for quality/statement pieces. We purchased our informal living room couch from Restoration Hardware Outlet, and let me tell you, it is the comfiest couch I have sat in. You literally sink into it. AH-MAZING.

Home Depot

Yes, you got that right, Home Depot. What do we purchase here? Well of course all the stuff for the garage guys, which has been a big focus of ours lately. We are working on getting all the “stuff” off the garage floor so we can epoxy come spring. Home Depot is also amazing when it comes to any outdoor organization/ patio needs.

Overstock

I order miscellaneous items from Overstock. I have ordered a little bit of everything from Overstock. Overstock is not my go to, first stop, but always an option when I am looking for a piece.

Toodles

I hope these stores help you on the right path to furnishing and decorating your house. I know they help me.

Cheers
