Cavatini

Cavatini is a dish I grew up with that is absolutely delicious and super easy to make. It’s the perfect dinner party or week night meal. Basically any time you don’t have a lot of time, or you want to be able to socialize with family, friends or guests, this is your dish. I am sure everyone will love it.

Family Tradition

This dish holds a bit of memories for me. You guys see me as a girly girl/boss babe all the time, but what you don’t know, is I grew up hunting. Every year it was a family affair, we would go to “hunting camp.” Hunting camp consisted of numerous family members and family friends all coming together for the weekend. It was a super fun weekend filled with camaraderie, fresh outdoor air, cocktails and delicious food. Cavatini was always the dinner meal Saturday night, and we all looked forward to it.

My mom would always make the “guts (main dish portion below)” of the dish ahead of time and have it ready to go in a container for when it was time to make. We would make this, some garlic bread (who doesn’t love garlic bread) and have a salad. It was/is an amazing meal.

Tips/Tricks and Options

  • You can make the meat, veggie noodle mixture of the dish ahead of time. Maybe you have time on the weekend and throw it together and then place in the fridge to throw together for a weeknight meal.
  • You can also make the meat, veggie noddle mixture of the dish and freeze it. Then when you don’t have time to cook or you have unexpected company, you can take it out, thaw and bake.
  • I prefer to use a ground turkey and ground sausage combo, as I feel it gives it more flavor, however feel free to use whatever type of ground meat you would like.
  • I would definitely recommend tossing a side salad together and making some garlic bread to go with. It makes the meal even better.
