Travel & Flying Secrets

Traveling can be the death of you if you aren’t prepared. Who likes traveling and flying? Who hates traveling and flying? I will be the first to tell you I don’t much like flying. It’s really not my cup of tea. Dealing with airports and 100s of people and awful food (pending the airport you are in) and more. Just really not my thing. Not to mention the turbulence which gives me extreme nausea. None of this sounds very appealing but it has to be done to get from place A to B.

I have come up with a few things that help my experience traveling be the best experience it can be. No, you won’t go from hating it to loving it, but your hate for those dreaded cramped planes and airports might become a little less.

  • TSA PreCheck

This is by far the best money I ever spent. TSA PreCheck has been a lifesaver. It saves me so much time especially when most times I don’t have it and am running through the airport to catch my flight. I highly recommend you invest the money into getting TSA PreCheck. It’s $85 for 5 years of sanity and no more hour long lines. I do have to say though even though you aren’t supposed to have to take off your shoes, most high heels go off and you end up taking them off. I have had so many weird looks and so many people tell me I don’t have to take them off. I then tell them the heels go off and need to be taken off.

  • Carbonated Water

I always carry a perrier, voss or pellegrino in my bag. This way if I get nauseated on the flight and the flight attendant hasn’t come around yet I can take a few sips and it helps calm my stomach. The nausea doesn’t go away but it’s a lot better than it was.

  • Pre-Reviewing Airport Food

Yes I am one of those who google searches airports to see what food they have in them. I usually don’t have time to be searching for a good place when in the airport but somehow happen to most always be in one around meal time. In order to get the best food I can in the airport I am in, I search ahead of my trip and note where I need to go to grab that meal. This way I always am getting something I want and am not missing my flight.

  • Comfortable Clothing

When I say comfortable clothing I don’t mean dressing down to sweat pants and a sweat shirt. Dress clothes can be comfortable. When traveling for work a lot of times I don’t have time to change before I have to be to XYZ of a place and so I have to wear my business outfit to the airpot and for the day. I have found numerous pairs of cute heels that are super comfy, so much so that I have ran in them. I also always buy business attire that I know I won’t mind being in for over 12 hours.

  • Snacks Always

I always keep a snack in my bag with me. This way if I don’t have time to grab that meal or if I do get nauseated and need food I have some. There is no reason your body has to be starved.  I highly recommend keeping some sort of snack in your bag. Trust me you will thank me later.

  • Music & Movie Downloads

Download your favorite Spotify playlist and amazon/Netflix movies and shows. Not only are these great options for your flight if you don’t have those personal TVs but they are great if you get stuck in the airport longer than you expect.

  • Share Your Location

I can’t tell you how many times I have been traveling at night alone. I always have my location shared with my fiancé on our phones so that he can track where I am if he doesn’t hear from me. This gives me a piece of mind that someone always knows where I am.
