Name Change

Name change has both a positive and negative connotation to it. Name change can be for happy reasons, such as getting married or not so happy reasons such as divorce. I refuse to dwell on the unhappy, and that’s not what my current life status has me doing. I recently got married, but from all the posts and pictures I am sure you could have guessed that. Along with the marriage comes the option to change your last name.

Contemplation

Changing my last name was not something that was an split second decision. Loosing my Dad 4 years ago really made me contemplate holding on to my maiden last name to keep a piece of him. As I got to really thinking,  I knew my Dad would always be with me, and holding on to something such as a last name, wouldn’t change that. I decided to change my name. I love my husband dearly and he me. Having his name is an honor for me. It’s another thing we share and it couldn’t bring a bigger smile to my face.

Last Name Change

Last name change is a BEAST! I feel like it never ever ends. Just when you think you have it all done, there is another thing to do.

Where to Start

  1. Social Security: This is the first place you have to start. There is no way around it. There is nothing like wasting a few hours waiting in the social security office, but it has to get done to move forward.
  2. Drivers License/ID card: Another task that will likely take a bit of time, but it has to be done. This will be your first task after social security.

Closing Remarks

Name change can be super daunting and you will likely be over having to do it before you even get too far. Take one step/item at a time. Don’t try to do it all in one day. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Embrace the change.

Cheers!

XOXO
